Welcome to Second Grade!!!!

Curriculum 

At Lake-Lehman we use the Scott Foresman Reading Series.  This series  offers an early reading program which our class loves!! They are simple readers that we introduce each week, using a variety of games and lessons to reinforce the reading patterns. The overall philosophy of this program is to encourage children to look at books, discuss books, and to instill the lifelong concept of reading books!!!  We have found that kindergarteners are highly motivated with this program!

Our new math series is bases on the Common Core requirements for Pennsylvania.  We are really excited about the new format for our students. It has many online components that may be used at home and in school.  We will introduce lessons on the smart board, use hands on manipulatives in small groups and also enrichment activities on our IPADS. 

Our writing series will encourage students to write in paragraph form, adding adjectives,and learning the elements of a story. 

In science and social studies, we cover about a chapter a month. Study guides will be offered and there will be many hands on projects throughout the year.

Classroom Management 
Plan

In 2-3 we always reinforce positive behavior. At times a child may need to be reminded to follow the rules.

1. Keep hands and feet to yourself

2. Be respectful to others and school property.

3. Walk at all times.

In our class we have a chart with clothespin names. The rules are reviewed at the beginning of the year and will be reinforced throughout the year. Students will have two "reminders" before a note is sent home.  Positive behavior will be rewarded in  a few ways.  If the class stays on tract with behavior they may review their options for a reward and then vote on which they want.
